I think the OSO Clean riders were using a stealth blockade. It's a more

advanced form of the antirace blockade.

Seriously, maybe everyone was in that state of not really wanting to start

the chase, but willing to ride the wheel of someone else chasing.

It has always been the weakness of local racing in my mind.

The notion of

blocking is NOT sitting on the front and soft pedaling!

Out of respect for the other riders in the pack (most of

which could ride

your a.. into the gutter), stay off the front.

I know all of you watch pro racing and if you have not

noticed, teams that

BLOCK are 3-7 riders back in the field. They do not pull

through or if they

do they certainly pull right off so as not to aid in the

chase. BUT OUT OF

The notion that GOOD BIKE HANDLING is required to block at

the front is a

joke.

Having experienced pro peleton etiquette and managed a team

at that level, I

can assure you a visit to the gutter would be in place.

Thus the weakness of local racing will always be because their is no

Good thing some of us older riders aren't riding anymore.

The notion

of "blocking" as a race tactic is absolutely ridiculous.

OBRA riders

get a clue and learn to race agressively with your legs AND

minds, but

in the name of Campagnolo and Shimano forget this negative notion of

"blocking" as a decent sportsmanlike race tactic.

Okay OBRA land, this blocking topic is getting out of

controll. I like

to do a little reading about bike racing and Blocking IS a

Skill, and

it requires careful bike handling. If you don't want the break to

get away you need to put in some effort to beat the

block. If someone is soft peddling in your pace line,

GO around! If several members of the same team are

across the front of the group, riding at 13 MPH, while

another member is off the front, the group is allowing

it. If you don't like it you you can alway do some

work at the front. Team tactics are part of what

makes road racing so cool, the chess game on bikes. I

try to set you up, you counter-attack and we all have

fun. MTN bike racing is great for people who don't

like team tactics. I hope I haven't offended anyone

and we should all keep it in mind that it is all about

fun, camaraderie, and a sense of accomplishment.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Blocking, lead-out, breaks= racing!

Okay OBRA land, this blocking topic is getting out of controll. I like

to do a little reading about bike racing and Blocking IS a Skill, and

it requires careful bike handling.

Boy, there sure was a lot of people not wanting to chase the OSO Clean guy

that got away in BB #3 cat 4/5. I never did figure out that one. I know the

entire field wasn't composed of OSO Clean riders either soooooo....??????

With 3/4 of a lap to go, he was 45 seconds out and the peloton absolutely

would not chase him down. Maybe someone could clue me in on what was up with

that?

I suspect some of the very people that get frustrated with blocking tactics

are the same people that won't work to pull back a break for fear of putting

out too much effort and "losing 10th place". So either put out the effort

to get around the blockers and chase things down, or just chill out and wait

for your pack sprint.

It has always been the weakness of local racing in my mind. The notion of

Out of respect for the other riders in the pack (most of which could ride

your a.. into the gutter), stay off the front.

I know all of you watch pro racing and if you have not noticed, teams that

Good thing some of us older riders aren't riding anymore. The notion

of "blocking" as a race tactic is absolutely ridiculous. OBRA riders

get a clue and learn to race agressively with your legs AND minds, but

in the name of Campagnolo and Shimano forget this negative notion of

"blocking" as a decent sportsmanlike race tactic.

Don't forget the 1994 Tour de France, final stage, Champs Elysees, Frankie

Andreu in a break a lap or so from the finish, and most of team Motorola at

the front of the peloton doing their darnedest to block the entire pack

through the tight hairpin at one end of the course. Valiant failure, but

they gave it a shot and gave Frankie a chance at the finish line.
