Those who missed David Douglas #2 race this past Saturday missed the most sticky mud I have encountered this season. The good thing was we had some gravel, little pavement and some somewhat still intact lawn to keep it from going over the top with regard to accumulation. Now mind you this was for the my race at 11:30 AM and those before. When I left the venue, it was raining hard. Maybe that made it better, or a different kind of fun! My disc brake Kesho was so super sweet on the descents and with regard to tons of clearance! Well run by Zone 5 and OBRA officials as usual. If you have not done this race before and can work it into your schedule, it is a joy.

Sunday Deschutes Crusade was the most fun I have had racing that venue. It had nothing to do with my finish, but about the perfect conditions. Moisture content of the soil was just enough to prevent any dust and yet there were not puddles. Temperature was about perfect (except that my costume and clothing choices were a bit too warm....as in freaking HOT). Again the Crusade Crew pulled a super neat course out of some grass, pavement, sandy soil with rocks and a little gravel that kept us on our best behavior. Even though I was thinking “race”, I kept having to deal with these sections of the course that made me feel I was getting to ride around in a “Cross Play Park”. My body kept telling me this work part hurts, while my brain is screaming for joy! Up and down and all around!
Thanks Crusade and OBRA officials for a great experience. And my bike...............was almost clean when done! Don’t get me wrong....I had a blast in the past on the icea and mud dished up by the weather.

Thanks to “Mr. Rain”, this coming weekend could be CLASSIC CROSS here in the NW wherever you choose to pedal and run.
We are so fortunate to be racing here!
