Hello,

We are a week away from the Piece of Cake road race. The new location in Perrydale, Oregon looks beautiful!

A few race notes:

1. Preregistration will be available on www.sportsbaseonline.com. Preregistration will be open until Friday, March 26. Save a few bucks and register early.

2. If you are coming from the north, please drive to the the race from Hwy 99, south of Amity, on Bethel Road. this will lead you directly to the parking/staging/start area, & avoid the actual course. See the race flier for directions.

3. Parking at the school is limited. Overflow parking will be to the north and south of the school on Amity-Dallas Road. Please be respectful of private property in the are. Please carpool if possible.

3. Cakes will be awarded to all race winners.

4. Post race goodies will be on sale at the race provided by the Perrydale School girls softball team. The Perrydale School has graciously allowed us to use their facility.

raced on -- perfect for some early season action similar to European

Spring

Classics, where hills might not be as much a factor as just plain

distance

and wind, with a bit of rough pavement thrown in to spice it up.



I've used several circuits in the area for POC (Sunday's, the original,

is

best!). Once, race day morning, I arrived to find fresh tar and gravel

on

much of the course...so we used some adjacent roads (whew!). Another

version had a fast, tail-wind-assisted narrow road that looked more like

a

bomb-cratered driveway, where rain-filled holes' depth was unknown, so

the

crown of the road was the only safe place to ride! Piece of Cake was

even

held in Beaverton one year, on a small circuit where I managed to

squeeze

about 5 miles out of, complete with two 180-degree turnarounds!



Rich Cramer and his Presto Velo cohorts are throwing the race party this

Sunday...I hope to see large starting fields. I will be reminded of the

many times I've tightened my toe straps to check on early season fitness

(even when I was the promoter, I've always raced POC!).
