Hello OBRA cyclocross folks!
For those of you who didn't receive the email I sent out earlier today, here are some updates about the seventh edition of the ever-popular Kruger's Crossing Cyclocross Classic, which will take place on Saturday November 17th, just over two weeks away.
Like in years past, this won't be your usual cross race. Expect a wild course that will lead you through berry fields, pastures, a barn, along rutted farm roads, a bonfire, a live band, a giant pig, and a beer garden! In the morning, our perennial coffee sponsor Nossa Familia will be serving free gourmet coffee and Bob's Red Mill will call present to serve their yummy, signature steel cut oatmeal. Later in the day, we'll have hot food at hand - catered by Kruger's Farm Market and their concession stands - and ample quantities of organic craft ale, courtesy of Hopworks Urban Brewery. There will be free kiddie races for the young ones and, by popular demand, we will once again host the Doggie Dash CX World Championships, a free and fun cross race (on-leash and sans bikes) for our four-legged friends, featuring multiple categories. We'll have a bunch of prizes and treats for the top finishers in each category and for the most original dog attire!
Talking about prizes... besides the cash purse for pro riders, we'll be raffling off a ton of prizes, courtesy of our generous sponsors West End Bikes, Specialized, Ibex, and Osmo Nutrition. And all pre-registered riders will also be entered in a free raffle of a $500 Rolf Prima wheelset! To top it off, our presenting sponsor West End Bikes is offering all Portland Racing email subscribers 15% off on any bike apparel, accessories and bike parts they have in stock! Just visit their store (located at 1111 SW Stark Street in Portland) and show a print or electronic copy of this post at the sales counter. Note: This offer is good towards one store visit, from today through Friday, Nov 16. The discount does not apply towards bikes or out-of-stock items.
That's it for now. Check out the web site (http://www.portlandracing.com/cx) for more details, course map, directions, photos and videos. As we get closer to the event, I will provide you another update about the course and day-of-race logistics. For now, mark Saturday Nov 17th on your calendar for a fun-filled race day at the farm. And spread the word with your racing and non-racing friends alike. Kruger's Farm is a very spectator-friendly venue and close by for anyone who lives in the Portland area!
See you at the races!
~Kris

PS 1: Pre-registration is Open! To save time and reduce waiting lines on race day, we strongly encourage you to pre-register online. As usual, we'll have an "express line" at registration for pre-registered racers, so all you have to do on race day is check in (and if needed, pick up your bib number) and you're all good to go. And to sweeten the deal, all pre-registered riders will get a start line CALL-UP and a FREE entry in our raffle of a $600 Rolf Prima ECX wheelset. Just pre-register today at http://www.portlandracing.com/cx/registration.html
PS 2: Volunteer and race for free! As always, we're looking for a couple hardy and joyful volunteers to help with set-up (on Friday), registration, lap counting, course marshaling, and tear-down. If you are interested in helping out and get a free race entry while you're at it, just shoot me an email.
