CX bottom bracket maintenance

Wow, thanks for all the great replies!  Overwhelming response for a CK bottom bracket.  I bow to your wisdom, and have already had it installed.  Sounds like most folks just open it up and regrease it once a year, if that.  Here's to not having to take apart ALL of my drivetrain every weekend!

Subject: [OBRA Chat] CX bottom bracket maintenance

I opened up my BB last month for the first time (FSA Mega Exo) because it was making noise, repacked it with grease & reassembled it (there was no grease left on the drive side).  Since then, I've had to open it up & clean out the grit and muddy water(!) after every race.  Granted, we've been racing in wet & muddy conditions since Ninkrossi, but it seems rather extreme to have to open up the bottom bracket and perform this kind of service after every CX race that goes near a puddle.  My feeling is that the BB was probably not that good to begin with and now that the seals have been compromised, I'm better off just replacing it.  Got my eye on a compatible Dura Ace BB.

But after I replace it, will I still need to worry about taking apart my cranks every weekend, or is that more the result of a bad bottom bracket?  How much maintenance is normal?

+10 for CK BBs ...

I've been running one on a mountain bike that I've raced for 8 years
straight. Only need to hit it with the lube once a season. CK BBs and
headsets are absolutely killer for our area riding ... plus you get to
support a (now) local company which supports our cycling community in many
different ways.
