Not again.... Siezed Pulleys!!

Bearings are bearings. Some have tight seals, some do not, some are even
just shielded. Buy a 10 pack from VXB and pop new ones in. and Pulleys
are pulleys. I don't think I have been running OEM pulleys since 1989.
or Get some shimano pullleys and put them on your sram derailluer.
I personally run thin washers that overlap the seal. grease that gap for
sure. Grease the bejesus out of the bearing also. its not like you are
going 2000 rpm and have to worry about grease churning and
bearing overheating. And if you seized them once, they are shot. Yes in
my younger poorer days i was known to run toothpaste in them to clean them
back up, but at some point the fits are gone and its all wobbley. so really
probably get new bearings. especially if you weren't careful
about cleaning it well, warming it, wd-40 it, oil it, warming it,
air blowing it, etc, etc, then greasing it, working it in. blowing it,
greasing it, cleaning seals, checking for damaged seals, etc, etc, etc,
etc. these aren't forgiving cup and cone bearings, these precision fits
with are like 10th of your hair thickness. If these are type where you
can't push the bearing out and push new ones in,then yes just get some new
pulleys.

I think the answer is you just need a Chris King headset and bottom bracket and then your bike will be worry free. Works for everything.

well i had my Force pulleys off as well and i have had to do it with my Shimano also, so it's just one of those fun things you get to do after a mudder!and after Barton i had to free up a BB30 bearing so mud is mud and it will get in to every bearing you have! ah cross 45min race and 2 hours of cleaning!!!
have fun!

That
is what bothers me, I have not had any problems until Canby
(and it was very Muddy) as well as Washington County.  I
know A LOT of cross riders are using these things.  Maybe it
is bad luck – but now I am paranoid.

Was
looking at the schematic for the Red and it looks to have
the same bearing design.  In looking at shimano’s they don’t
have ball bearings in the pulley and they have more of a cap
that goes over the pulley hole.  It looks like the Shimano
has a sleeve that goes over the bolt so no bearings to gunk
up.

I've never cracked my pulleys apart on a
Rival der. in two years of racing it.  They spin fine.  I even
use pressure washers and not the gentle kind either.

does everyone who runs SRAM

pull their pulleys apart after every race??

So
having a discussion with a buddy of mine and he
thought, what about trying marine grease, something

It should keep the water out.

Been using SRAM for a few years for 'cross. Never have pulled off the
pulleys, not even once. Bad luck maybe?

Oh and I wanted to say, I never intended to accuse Stuart's power washing as
the culprit. I used a pump sprayer after Washington county and I can pee
harder than that. If the seals on these pulleys are that bad I am just
shocked anyone uses them for cross.

After I pulled the pulleys apart from the Canby race they were packed with
mud. The power wash is not going to drive that much gunk in there.
