Garmin froze. Fix?

Slightly related:

I had trouble with my Garmin 800. I was getting an error that said "XM
receiver is not supported". When I plugged it in to the USB port on my
computer, it received power and charged, but the computer would not read
the data.

Although I'd had it more than a year, Garmin warranteed the 800 and sent
me a replacement. They said it is a problem with the storm cap over the
USB port, and that newer production has fixed the problem. Googling
around I could see this was a somewhat common problem, so I guess Garmin
figured they should warrantee regardless, rather than piss off so many
people.

Sooo, if this happens to you, don't despair! Call Garmin.

Oh, and btw, I was able to get the data off the old one by cleaning the
contacts with isopropyl alcohol. It evaporated whatever lingering
moisture was in the unit. I figured I had nothing to lose by trying it,
since they'd already sent me a replacement.

Leave it a while first. Sometimes they just unfreeze on their own and you
don't lose the data. Otherwise just Google it since there is normally a way
to unlock them without losing all data and all settings. I had this with an
edge 305 and it worked just as the interwebs said.

If you get desperate enough, the hard rest is the upper left (power) and lower right (lap) button. Hold them down for a bit and you should hard reset.

This means your settings are all gone however, so it's a last ditch effort to get it unstuck.

I have a Garmin 500... have only had it for five months, so I'm not used to any quirks these may have.

Anyway, at the end of my commute this morning, in the dark, with gloves on, I tried to stop the timer. Couldn't really see, so then pushed on the reset button, I think. Dark. Gloves. You know what I'm talking about.

When I got to some light I saw the display had frozen right at the point of the end of the ride. Displays all the numbers right up to the point where I pushed the Stop button. Pushing the Power button, even in the light with gloves off, does nothing.

So is there a battery to pop out to reset this thing? Some other fix? What do I do?

Thanks for any help!
