What are the top-3 issues facing women racers?

Hi OBRA,

Tomorrow, as a member of the USA Cycling Women's Committee, I (as well as
track rep Norrene Godfrey) will be on a phone conference discussing some of
the top issues that face women in bike racing and what USA Cycling can do to
help be a part of the solution. Women racers make up only 13% of the general
membership of racing cyclists nation-wide and there is a huge potential for
growth, but more than 30% of women cyclists don't renew a racing license
after their first year.

So, my question to all the women out there is: What are the top issues
facing you as racing cyclists? What keeps you from racing your bike or makes
it difficult for you to do so. We've talked a lot about this already on OBRA
as well as at the Committee meetings at USA Cycling, but often the women out
there who are trying to race can better articulate the issues that
personally face them or prevent them from racing. I expect that we'll hear a
lot about the usual concerns of lack of racing categories and lack of women
to fill the categories when they are offered. But what are some of the other
issues? If you are experiencing it, it's likely that women outside of Oregon
are as well, and vice versa, so whether you're racing OBRA races only or
venturing out of the state, we want to hear your voice.

I appreciate your input. Please feel free to reply publically or send me a
note off-line.

~Kendra
