Well maybe in some cases, but we just had ours fixed for about 150.00 by a reallyhonest guy that I totally trust, he could of really put the screws to us if he wanted but he did not.......way less than buying a new frig, just sayin...
I guess it all depends on what the problem is and if you can trust the person doing the repair....
see ya

FYI, a fridge is not like a dryer or a washer or even a dishwasher... There are really no moving parts that can be "fixed". You can clean the coils of course but that's about it. If the compressor gives out, we'll its a sealed system. You best bet probably is simply a new fridge. Getting a new compressor, capturing the old refrigerant, soldering the new compressor into place, and than recharging it correctly, is not an easy "field" task. New fridges are way way more efficient anyway. -John ( I was an engineering intern for whirlpool back in the early 90's). I can still completely disassemble a whirlpool / kenmore washer in about 5 minutes:)

If anyone wants just a piece of the set I can go that route too...

I agree, only I would recommend a used fridge. Specifically the used fridge I'm selling. I might even consider trades for bike parts :)
