Thanks Mike for the input. I will chat with Kenji, Candi and the board to make sure they feel this is an acceptable practice then go from there.

Thanks!

Chad

Chad, I can't speak for others but I'd say please DON'T stop occasional updates on any of your races. We get useful info here on Washington races and tons of non-OBRA events. Even if we don't personally roll USAC we love knowing what's going on. Might be different on OBRA Race - but hey, this is Chat.

Besides, there's at least 14 people left who don't partake in Facebook and might want to know what's going on.

Dear OBRA Members,

It is with great excitement that I would like to announce that registration for the 11th Annual Mt. Hood Cycling Classic is now open. We are looking forward to another great year. A couple of important updates that I want to make all of you aware of. First and foremost after several years of walking the tight rope of dual sanctioning with this event we were given the mandate this past year that we had to choose one sanctioning body or the other in order to continue on. So after reviewing the numbers of which 75% of our riders are from outside of Oregon and the fact that our Pro 1-2 men’s category is by far our largest group we have decided to sanction the event with USA Cycling this year. Due to the strict nature of Professional riders not being allowed to race non sanctioned events we quite frankly, could not afford the loss in sponsorship and registrations if we lost the pro component. I know this will not sit well with many of you and a number of you will not be interested in doing the race given this change. I completely understand and respect your decision.

For those of you who do want to race but are concerned/frustrated about purchasing an annual license we are committed to support you as you have supported us for so many years. So we are offering a unique deal for the next month to all OBRA members. If plan to race the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic, are a current OBRA member, and need to purchase a USA Cycling License please contact me at mhcc@gorge.net and I will give you a special registration form that has a reduced price of $30 off the registration fee. This means we will help to cover half of the purchase of your USA Cycling license. This offer is good from now up until March 1st and can only be redeemed by mail in registration and is only open for OBRA members who have already purchased their 2013 OBRA license. We feel your pain and want to do whatever we can to assist and support you. Please keep in mind that the Cascade Cycling Classic will also be going to an all USAC sanctioning, as well as the USGP next year. Plus we have one more year of Masters Road Nationals in Bend. If you plan to attend these other events this will take a $30 license fee a long ways.

Another important change that we are implementing is after much consideration and polling we have decided to change our masters men racing categories to a CAT 1-2 (40+) and a separately run CAT 3-4 (40+) format as well as to combine the Senior Men’s CAT 3’s and 4’s.

One last thing to note. This will be the first and final announcement regarding the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic on the OBRA Chat. Out of respect for OBRA we do not want to continue to take advantage of this forum given that we are not a sanctioned event through it. So for up to date info and news please find us and like us on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/mthoodcyclingclassic?ref=hl or come check out our completely over hauled website at www.mthoodcyclingclassic.com

We appreciate all your support and look forward to seeing you on the starting line on June 21st!

Sincerely,
Chad and Crew

Chad, it is totally awesome that you have broken out the 40+ categories. I hope you will get more masters. You have certainly lured me in. My biggest issue over the last few years has been not being fit enough to climb with the young Cat 3’s anymore or the 40+ Cat 1-2 guys. But the 40+ Cat 3, those are my peers! Please send me the special registration form so I can get my discounted registration fee (good idea to help offset some of the USAC license cost. At least I will have my license for the USGP in the fall)!

Cheers,
