Thank you so much everyone who helped contribute to cover the extra cost of certified flaggers this weekend.
Because there is a chance of speeding pickups with boat trailers we will have a flagger at each end of the two bridges and at the 20 mile's turn around (10 miles out). That means a total of 6 certified flaggers the next two weekends. Luckily, David Bossen (The starter--- father of Ricky, Kenny and Ellie) came up with a great plan that will allow us to still have the 10 mile race for the juniors without the additional expense of two more flaggers--it is all in the timing.
The behavior of the racers has not been the issue--the concern is the behavior of the vehicles on the road. But please make sure you ride safely to the right of the road. We are being closely scrutinized by ODOT, Forest Service and the local road users.
Thanks to the many racers who said they would be stopping to eat in Estacada and would be sure to mention the Bike Race. I am hoping to get an article in the local papers about how this race supports Junior racers.
I am sorry about the number of flats. Three of my kids flatted also. The kids and I were out there on Sat sweeping the course-- mostly the 2-3 miles nearer the turnaround. We will sweep more again this week.
Thanks Again to all who helped.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Estacada Start List Race #1 Extra Expense Coverage
I suggest that the masters racers be prepared to make a charitable donation equal to the entry fee (including, not in lieu of) to OBRA at registration. This should help to cover the extra expense and its for a good cause.
Why masters? Well the juniors should be riding for free, and we all remember what it was like in or 20's. Barely enough money even for a post race beer.
I'll have my checkbook at registration, and I encourage all the rest of the masters to do the same.
