I'm sorry to report that the Estacada TT will not be happening this year as
the Portland Velo Race Team was not granted the permits by the County.

We thank you all for the interest in this race and we realize that its a
popular TT venue. Although the race didn't happen this year we are looking
forward to having the race back on the schedule in 2014!

Are there any ladies or groups of people who would like to car pool to
Estacada TT this Sunday? This is my first and I'm slightly under prepared
and over anxious about the experience. Some camaraderie would be nice.

I have to mention on this subject that an on the spot change from 1 minute

starts to 30 second starts is not impossible but it would be SO difficult

to do that it is highly unlikely that it has ever been done with a race of

any field size. I think that it would be more difficult to pull off then

the roomate switch from the Seinfeld episode. In fact, even suggesting it

demonstrates an amazing lack of understanding of the technical aspects of

compiling results at a time trial.



I would like to suggest that rather than suspending the riders that behaved

badly we require them to put on a race and then change the timing

parameters at the last minute. This would be a far greater penalty.

Having been a member of said team at Estacada yesterday, I would like to

add a couple of things to this that were said (while in my presence).

1 - A member of the club asked the promoter to eliminate someof the

'blank spots' in the race. There were some huge time gaps that pusehd

start times out to 2:00 PM.

2 - It was _SUGGESTED_ that for the next event that the start times be

in 30 second increments.



The ladies at the registration table were all very kind and very patient

while people were trying to accomplish several things at once. To that

we are all grateful.



Having promted a number of events here in OBRA, I can certainly

sympathize with Michael and his 'first-time jittters'. For the next

event, I would be happy to offer any help to Michael or Dave Bossen to

assist in registraion for this event.

I second what Ron wrote. Saw my time Sat. night, showed up 1 hr

early,checked in, warmed-up, rode hard, cooled down. Isn't that how it's

One thing I want to say positive about today is this. I didn't miss my

start time as I was there 3 hours early. I would like to see 30 sec vs the

one minute starts. The ladies at regestration were great and sometimes it's

hard to put on an event if you haven't done it before.



Face it, we are spoiled little OBRA brats. Try racing under USCF and see

how fast everything is.

Maybe things have run too smoothly in the past. I am out of town. My mom

is dying and I will not return until about May 2. I will try and help with

the race then. But I think you all have to cut some of the organizers more

slack. I never saw the start times, I had hoped to get them on Friday so I

could offer some help but I never saw them.

We will strive to improve.

the whole fiasco with the start times was beyond frustrating. the

topica listing didn't work and it wasn't until this morning that you

could down load the start time from the race flyer link off of the OBRA

calendar and most of us didn't even know about that. they also were

posting messages on the topica obra site and not the obrarace site or

visa versa. so we show up at 830 or 9 in the morning only to find out

our start times aren't for four hours. it would have been nice if

they would have been flexable and went to 30 sec start times (something

they could consider in the future) but a lot of people got their start

times and then said they'd come back so it didn't make any since to

change the intervals. you couldn't even compress the start times by

taking out all of the unfilled spots because those that left to come

back would arrive only to find the race possibly over or would have

missed their start time by a mile. i got a refund and i know most of

the corbin/huntair team did as well. i feel badly for the juniors who

lost some funding.

Thanks to all that came out to play in the rain in Estacada this Sunday.

Did we have some weather or what???

Next week is the 2nd event and we double the mileage out to 20 miles. Make

sure you send in your registration.



The ETT series is presented by the proliferate Bossen family and last year

raised enough money for the kids to race the majority of the year with the

proceeds.   When the riders found out that we had to pay for certified

flaggers this year people were coming up and just handing extra $ to the

Bossens to cover the cost. What a great cycling community we have! Thank
