That is 1/8" width not pitch. Pitch is the distance between pins. Nearly all bike chains are 1/2" pitch now. For historical reference there once were 1" pitch bike chains and then more recently the failed Shimano 10mm pitch. Width is the distance between plates. At least in this case width is more important then length.

Chain width does matter. You can run a 1/8" chain on a 3/32" cog (or chainring), but not the other way around. So, if you're going to stick with the 1/8" cog, you'll need to install a 1/8"-pitch chain.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] 3/32 chain on 1/8 inch cog cause problems?
I just recently traded out the cog on my track bike and now the chain doesnt seat onto the cog. i replaced the 3/32 cog with a 1/8 cog thinking it wouldnt matter. question #1: does it? also measured the chain and it is about halfway between 1/16 and 1/8 past where it should be, so its time to replace the chain. is this the reason its not seating?question #2 if i go and buy a new chain should i buy a 3/32 or 1/8 chain? will either work? ive read through a few forums and saw nothing about them being incompatible just preferences for one or the other. thanks so much for any insights!
