Mike Ripley
Hello
With the season fast approaching I wanted to say (Hi) and it was great
seeing some of you the last 3 weekends in PDX or Salem for Training.
SO many events including some Short Track in Bend and Cascade Locks as
well.
The great thing about the mountain bike scene or family has many components
The Oregon XC Series presented by Rivercity Bicycles
30% of the categories are Junior this year and with the Bend Endurance
Academy and Primal Wear's support to include 2 year age groups for the
short course will make Junior racing the best in 2013. Now its your job to
get kids to the events and keep the Junior racing going from Spring mtb to
fall cx.
Each one of these 2 year age groups can win a Champion Jersey at the end of
the season if they compete in 4 events and the junior racing is supported
by Athlete Path for the junior portion.
Also Hammer Nutrition and Gorge Delights along with Deschutes Brewery,
Yakima and Veleau are supporting with support and series ending prizes for
the top Teams in the Team Comp.
Congratulations again to 2012 Team Overall

Speaking of long life, the Mudslinger turns 25 and Oregon's history of bike
racing is entrenched (so to speak) in events that have stood the test of
time (Kind of Like Don Leet or Ron Strasser, now Cat 2 60+ Men)
Spring Thaw 22 years, Chainbreaker at 16 I think, Picketts Charge for close
to 20 years or at 20 years. Bear Springs Trap and Petr's Moto with Chainsaw
running around the woods, to New Upstarts to start the Season at Echo and
Sisters Stamped on Memorial Weekend.
In reality if you want a new experience all you need to do is follow the
series and visit our great state. Best 6 of 10 overall for the Series Title
New Cats
Singlespeed Women (long course)
Beginner
Also Pro is now ELITE.....sounds fancy

Word....remember that the categories for the series are not necessary for
every race. All an OBRA race has to offer is Senior/Masters/Junior Men and
Women and SS and Clydesdale so the fact that we offer so many is something
to thank each race director.
For my OBRA hat/role I am assigning Course observers for those wanting to
race for free for any MTB event and fill out a PDF for the Race Director
and myself/Kenji. This program is MTB specific and being that a Chief ref
can't be on the course to the same degree as a rider allows for a general
internal review of the event so we can all maintain that great quality of
racing. Each year all of us may forget a detail and thanks to your comments
through this program the racing has been great to the point that we should
crest 3000 riders overall for the series and look forward to seeing new
faces and old friends at the events.
Mudslinger Events
I do put on a variety of events throughout the year and weather its the
Mudslinger (2 day stage race this year) only 20.00 for a Junior to do both
days and with 3 stages this is a BAR Dream (had to find a way to make BAR
point hunters take notice) or any Series event including Alsea falls and
the TOE on 7/6 (series Finals) I attempt to offer something for everyone.
More to come on those other events that you enjoy or will push you to new
levels of fitness on the bike
Be well and contact me off list for a course observer position at an OBRA
race this season
