If you think this is not about racing your bike, read it again or just ignore and continue with your life.
Please consider supporting Head Start and or other pre-school programs with financial support. Help kids who are in families not able to attend the various top notch pre-school programs in your community. If kids do not have parents and or mentors fostering learning and finding the positive in daily activities, they are at a huge disadvantage when entering kindergarten or first grade. This lack of a positive learning foundation (both academic and societal) will follow them the rest of their lives. This early learning will help them with the inevitable roadblocks and detours that come up in every person’s life. It will help them find ways to navigate through or around them in a manner that is benefits them and society. Those of us who had this support do not even realize it was there. It was just growing up!
If you do not have children, just a few bucks that might be spent on a new “something” might make the difference between reading about a young kid who grew up in a positive environment winning a bike race or a science award instead of an email posted here about a young adult who got busted with 10 stolen bikes (and never had any early childhood support). If you have kids and spare some donation for this worthy program, I tip my hat to you.
I ask you to think about how many opportunities you have encountered in your life. Possibly opportunities that many young kids will not ever imagine because of the lives they were born into. Children need to feel like someone loves and cares about them, but also pushes them to grow and learn.
There are many obra members or their family members who work in education, social services or other important professions who see the results of these kids who never got this early chance to learn and grow in a positive environment. They also see the great strides made by individuals who had the early support so crucial to development.
Even some of us who have had a tough time in life thus far have it way better than many kids on the edge of positive or negative lives.
Thanks for listening.
