Hi shirley , Knowing Grant and the workouts he doe's . He probably folded

the Chain ring when he attacked. I hope he is okay and didnt hurt his

fishing arm.

That guy happened to be my husband. He didn't crash because he slipped

out of a pedal and he wasn't shifting at the time. His chain completely

derailed on the outside and his bike locked up, so he flipped over the

handle bars. On closer inspection, his big chain ring is slightly bent

(probably defective from the factory) and he just hit it in a bad spot

when he attacked, causing it to derail.

saying cleats are fairly cheap, and the results of poping out of your

can be tragic, so keep an eye on them.

I've been wearing Speedplays for ten years and invested in their new design

that allowed "Cafe Covers" as they call them. Given that Speedplay puts the

"working stuff" is on the bottom of your shoe, they make walking around

bearable, if not pleasant, and reduce wear. The "Kool Kovers" are still

available in the catalogs for Look cleats. I have no idea how well they

work.

are plastic) check them especially when you walk on gravel. I took a big

chunk out at Cherry Pie and that ruined them. I can't think about other

makers who have plastic so just out of habit, inspect them and take the mud

and other debris out of them and it may save you a trip to the medics.

There was also a non-race pedal incident at Kings Valley just prior to the

start of the 1/2s...a rider's pedal came apart. I couldn't tell if it was

the pedal body broke, or it just came off its spindle complete. I think he

missed the race...?

(A BIG thanks to Scott, Cameron, etc, for a classic Kings Valley race! The

season progresseth...)
