Subject: [OBRA Chat] Heiser Farms Road Race #3 - Pre-Race updates
My fellow bicycle enthusiasts,
The third and final Heiser Farms Road Race is tomorrow. Yay! This is your last opportunity this year to experience what some are calling their "favorite race ever, dude!" (someone probably said that once).
Check out the updates/notes below
- Women 1/2/3 : There are currently NO women signed up for this race. I will make a decision on whether to cancel this race at the close of pre-registration. Payout will be distributed to the current series leaders.
Online registration is open till 7 pm tonight . So get on and pre-register to save time and money tomorrow!
Double check your start time and race details on the flyer:
http://trailheadracingpdx.wordpress.com/2013/02/05/heiser-farms-grand-island-road-race-series/
- We will be charging a $5 parking fee. This money will be donated to the local non-profit, Protect Grand Island ( protectgrandisland.com ), as a way of saying "thank you" to the local community.
Please park in only the areas designated by the volunteers. We want to limit any damage caused by the cars on the wet grass.
- Heiser farms is allowing us to use the farm store for registration and preparation. There is a covered overhang around the building and it will be heated inside. There will also be plenty of room to set up tents and trainers in the area. But please don't set up tents on the grass parking area. There is a large gravel space next to the large white barn where tents will go. We'd like to keep the parking area for parking only. Ask the volunteers at registration for assistance if needed.
- To reiterate: CASH! ~$400 in the purse going into race 3! Payout is distributed to the top 5 men and top 5 women in the series overall.
- Check the weather. Because it will be fantastic
- When selecting your wheels and tires, there is rough pavement out there and a small (about 50 m) section of dirt/gravel with some potholes. So choose wisely. I think choosing for comfort and strength will go a long way in keeping you fresh through the rough spots.
Note on potholes. There is at least one significant pothole on the left side of the road around the back side of the course. As you all know, this is a relatively difficult course so the expectation is you keep you head up and are aware of the various road hazards. However, it's recommended that you bring a less expensive wheelset to the race. Crashes can happen.
That being said, we will be marking the significant potholes more visibly this time to hopefully avoid any incidents.
- Race support will be wheels-in/wheels-out in the support car.
Please mark your wheels with name and category!
- You will need 2 NUMBERS to go on the RIGHT side and BACK.
- Annual Licenses: If you have purchased a license, but haven't received your new packet, you have a few options: (1) Print off your purchase receipt and show it at registration. (2) go to http://obra.org/people , search your name and show us your member status. If you have your 2013 license: Bring it.
Thank you!
