Coventry Cycle Works - Second location!
8354 SW Hall Boulevard
Beaverton, OR 97008
We service ALL bikes.
To those who don't know, we specialize in Recumbents.
To the scornful, who believe (stupidly) that these are only "Geezer Bikes"
for washed-up OLD has-beens - you're idiots and badly/sadly misinformed!
To those who chant the lame old mantra of "Cheater Bikes that CAN'T CLIMB!"
- you're too lazy to WORK at re-developing the muscle groups in your legs in
a new position so that you CAN climb, just as good as you EVER did. Your
climbing WILL suffer if you're too LAZY to put in the WORK.
At the Sebring 24-hours race this February Recumbents swept the field by NO
SMALL MARGIN.
Just think! No more chamois butter, no more numbness in your wrists, no
more sore neck, from looking UP to see the road. Same speeds.
For those without a rat-trap, stupidly sealed=shut way of thinking, please
come in and take some test rides. No one will try to "trap" you into buying
one - NO commissions are paid here and I'd flat-ass FIRE any employee trying
to "Seal the Deal"... in a heartbeat.
Hope to see some of you soon! Check out Team-Vite Racing and Coventry Cycle

If anyone has a Zipp Vuka Bull base bar and/or VukaClip S-bend extensions
they're looking to off load, I would love to help take them off your hands.
I'd prefer to snag a zero drop base bar.
Thanks,

Contrary to what some have posted, it's not going to be feasible on a
'proper' fitting road bike. That vid of Martyn, he's riding a road bike
with a short stem, low seat and smallish bike. With a regular road bike
your weight is much too far forward.
Work on your wheelies, those are way cooler and actually useful to a certain
extent.

apparently everyone and their mom with a 400 pound sportbike can do this
visually impressive trick when rolling up to a group ride, but I'm having a
hard time learning this on a 20 pound roadbike. Is a sustained stoppie
harder on a bicycle due to the lower mass, weaker brakes, or do I just need
to "commit" more in terms of speed and braking?

Just because the saddle is jacket up and bars dropped to the head tube
doesn't mean that one can't "reposition" on a "proper" fitting road bike.
It's most certainly possible, just takes balance and weight transfer. And
brakes. And front wheel traction.
Last time I checked you wheelie after winning a race, not during. That's
why all WSBK, AMA, and MotoGP bikes have things called "wheelie control"
wheelies are slow and only look cool after you've won.

OBRA,
This is a lightly used 2012 Mavic Ksyrium Elite rear wheel in black/silver
with a used SRAM RED OG-1090 Cassette 11-26, with dark red graphics on the
backside.
Skewer included. Conti GP400 700x23 is at about 85%. Wheel is not seeing
any use and would make a great clincher race wheel, pit wheel, or a very
light training
wheel. Wheel is true, hub feels good, recently had it serviced at WBW.
Cassette definitely has some miles, but still shifts perfectly. As it is
machined from
a solid chunk of stainless steel, its lifespan is much longer than the
typical 10-speed cassette. No matching front wheel is available. Open to
trading for a nicely
preserved hubset, most interested in Shimano 600, Ultegra, or Dura Ace.
$180/offer

Looking for a slightly slower, less rowdy alternative to the Bend Tuesday
night Hammerfest? We are starting up a new Tuesday night "Rubber Mallet"
ride with the following goals in mind:
? Spirited group ride for experienced riders who are not quite up to the
Hammerfest pace.
? Smaller, less-chaotic group that follows the rules of the road and rides
safely and politely.
? Route will change from week to week, rotating between a selection of 3-4
routes.
? Meet at Pine Mountain Sports. Ride will leave at 5:30 until we have enough
daylight to push the time back to 6.
First ride wil be next Tuesday 3/19 using this route:

I just read in the Oregonian, that BG will now match on-line pricing. This
is a big deal; how are they going to compete, given that retailers wholesale
prices are close to Internet prices? I know bike racers do all their
shopping locally (: Obviously, BG is pretty desperate to take this step.
I don't want them to fail, even though I admit that I do most of my shopping
on-line. I still rely on my local retailers for special services (e.g.
facing BB threads), but I have to admit the shop people usually know a lot
less about bike parts than I do, and I am no expert.

Hello fellow Obrans,
I have a few strays that need new homes.
Fizik Tundra 2 with manganese rails. All black with black logo. Brand new.
$80
Park Ts-6 truing stand. Older model, no frills, but does its job. $40
Olympus x-940 digital camera. 14 mp, new in the box, I thought pocket sized
was the way of the future but as it turns out, I am a size queen. $80
Let me know if you are interested in anything. Thanks.

Steve,
They will be fine. Its not like they will become the peoplepc.com of the
internet or anything.
Did you read that they are now owned by a guy out of California, who has
done the exact same pricing down there for years, and judging by his
ability to purchase the Bike Gallery, it seems to be working just fine.
If you don't like dealing with shop people you should find an internet
reseller of a frame prep/repair tool kit and shut the hell up...and I mean
that with all due respect.
Regards.

Racers who buy online are shortsighted. Think how much support our locl bike
shops give to tthe races we do. Without us supporting their shops they may
not be in a position to support races then our race fees go up, races
disappear ect... support your LBC! Plus, half the crap you buy online is a
knock off (especially that fancy carbon)

And it's not just the support of bike racing. We have a vibrant cycling
culture in Portland because of LOCAL bike shops. They provide jobs, value
added services, a passion for everything bicycles, and support for bike
commuters, century rides, BTA, CCC, etc. It's a bit like doughnuts -- what's
a better experience, ordering them online or going down to Voodoo doughnuts
and taking in all that creativity and diversity? Build and support your
local cycling culture and pass it on to others.

Racers who buy online are shortsighted. Think how much support our locl bike
shops give to tthe races we do. Without us supporting their shops they may
not be in a position to support races then our race fees go up, races
disappear ect... support your LBC! Plus, half the crap you buy online is a
knock off (especially that fancy carbon)

Let's face it. The people who engage in "aficionado activities" (bike
racing, pool, music, etc), routinely go for the lowest possible price,
usually because they're low-income if not outright broke. They also tend to
forget about details like shipping charges and repair and maintenence.
There are several low-volume bike shops in Portland that do excellent
repair/service. I suspect there are equivalents in Eugene and the other
"cycling cities" in the state.
One thing that might help is to share "success stories" on this news list.
I'll start. Some years ago the mechanics at Coventry Cycle installed a
threaded fastener on my very thin skinned Cannondale race bike so I could
mount a water bottle cage higher on the down tube. They took care of it;
no fuss. The price was fair; the work was excellent. I wish I could throw
in a "... and that's how I came to win the Paris sprint in the TdF..." but I
can't. I was pack fodder at best. But I was well hydrated pack fodder.

I fully agree about LBS's and our need to support them. ?I don't care to
name shops but I've shopped at two local shops for years now. ?One shop can
get pretty much any part that I'm looking for, and they offer a price match.
?They don't always actually match that price but I at least get an offer for
the item at about 15% off. ?Another bike shop offers 10% for OBRA and if you
shop enough you become a 15% off "gold" member plus 10% back in store
credit.
And of course we can't over look all the parts buying and selling here
within OBRA. ?You wait long enough and some one here is bound to be selling
the item that your looking for.
So if you look hard enough in PDX, you can find the deals to make you feel
like your getting a?bargain, while supporting your LBS.?
Keep in mind that next time your at a staging area for a race, that cyclist
next to you had to work 3 extra hours at their bike shop job just to pay the
entry fee of that race.
Remember this is coming from a man that washes concrete for a living just to
support my bike racing addiction.
That was my .02 cents worth, I'm going back to my beer now.?

Once in a while you toss out a line to get a reaction. Funny stuff. Bike
racers = broke or low income. Explains all the Pinarellos and Colnagos for
sure!
But I'll also bite at your real point. Year ago my wife, better than I
deserve, bought me a 29er. My first race, the Tahoe Trail 100, I busted
three spokes in the back wheel. The shop, that same Bike Gallery original
poster Steve is worried about, went back to Trek/Fisher and got me a new
wheel, warrantee, zero charge. Don't get that from the internets!
But I don't worry about them, or any good local shop. Unlike book shops
versus Amazon, there's always room for wizard mechanics and actual human
help choosing and fitting a bike. I'm sure they lose sale of tires and
cables and such to lower prices, but can make up for it with service. Let
alone movie nights and beer!!

Looking for a slightly slower, less rowdy alternative to the Tuesday night
Hammerfest? We are starting up a new Tuesday night "Rubber Mallet" ride with
the following goals in mind:

Erik at Sellwood Cycles has sent paid staff to four separate trail work
parties at Riverview. There ain't no online retailers building trails for
us.Universal Cycles has donated a lot of money to the local mtb cause.Velo
Cult builds community (concerts, movies, and other events) and is a great
place to get work done while enjoying a beer. ?Online retailers don't have
beer.

The Eric Kautzky Memorial Track Race has been cancelled for 2013.
Unfortunately I'm unable to pull off the logistics for this year's event.
In past years the EK Race has been the largest one-day track omnium event
in the Pacific Northwest. And because of our sponsors and track racers, in
the past seven years we raised over $11,000 for the Eric Kautzky Memorial
Scholarship Fund. The Fund has awarded scholarships to 14 Tigard High
School graduating seniors pursuing majors in exercise science, physiology,
and biology.
Thanks again to all of you who have supported the EK Race in the past.
Hopefully we'll be back next year.

What's the exact address to get to race / parking for Dirty Circles
tomorrow? I need it for my nav. I'll be cutting it close to make my race,
so anyone with an idea about how long it takes to get there from Sellwood
area, what's your prediction?
Thanks- Please respond off chat.

I have a set, (50-34) but they had something corrosive baked into them. I
either need someone that can blast a new finish on these or a set of gently
used rings in either 50-34 or 50-36. Reply privately if you have a set or
see a set in a local shop that deals in used parts. Thanks!

Bend Tuesday Night "Rubber Mallet" Ride
Looking for a slightly slower, less rowdy alternative to the Tuesday night
Hammerfest? We are starting up a new Tuesday night "Rubber Mallet" ride with
the following goals in mind:
