Newb road race questions

This time of year, show up with several clothing options. Nothing worse than dressing for 50 degrees and cloudy, and getting 42 degrees and rain. The most important thing to bring, Newb, is your 'dangerous rider radar'. Try to observe who can handle their bike, and who can't. Almost all of us have been crashed out early in our careers, because we didn't figure out who the 'danger men' were.

Brian,

I'd say for most road races always bring a mini pump, tube(s) and tire lever. I'm assuming you are racing cat 4/5. If so the distance shouldn't warrant a whole ton of food nor will you have time to scarf much down. I'd bring a couple gels. I find shot blocks easiest to take during races. I'd probably only bring one waterbottle but that's just me. If you have extra wheels make sure to bring them for the support car especially for a race like gorge roubaix. I wouldn't bring fenders. It's one more thing to malfunction plus you will be in a peloton full of non fendered racers. Also, don't you want to look PRO? The start will most likely be relatively slow compared to a mtb race. At least the initial rollout. I assume with your field once the gravel starts there will be some groups that form. Best bet is to move your way to the first 1/3 before gravel starts and feel the group out.

1. What should be carried for a race like the Gorge Roubaix? I'm assuming basic repair tools, spare tube, food, and two large bottles. I know about the 25-28mm tires and heavier tubes.2. If the weather is crappy do people run fenders?3. How much warm-up is needed? Does the field take some time to warm-up at the start? Or is it aggressive like a mtb start?
Thanks in advance for any and all help.Cheers!
