Trick that works for me is using strong (spf ~50) waterproof/sweatproof sunscreen on all exposed body parts PRIOR to exposure to poison oak/ivy. Then shower with any strong detergent and cool water (to prevent pore opening) as soon as possible. I use NO-AD because it is cheap, but all of them seem to work.
Never had outbreak using this plan and helps with sunburns too!
Ounce of prevention is worth...

My experience is that Technu and other pricey remedies only work if you wash off within 60min or so. Seconding the "Mean Green" cleanser as a more affordable alternative (pretty much the same stuff).
Once the urushiol oil binds to your skin, it is not possible to remove and you're into "managing the symptoms" stage.

Be careful washing in warm water. I went out for a spring ride a several years ago
and decided to wash my shoes off in the utility room sink with some nice warm
water when I got home. The warm water
opened up the pores in my arms and I have never in my life gotten a case of
poison oak that bad. Pretty much my entire
hands and halfway up to my elbow were covered.
I had gloves on during the ride so it had to have come from the post
ride shoe washing.

I have found that just showering with luke warm water and lots of soap suds is all you need to prevent it, if you can get to a shower within reasonable time of exposure.
Wash your clothes, and everything they touch.

Tecnu works....period! But also remember Melissa
Boyd mentioned the Mean Green Handcleaner that works as well. The key is
to not let poison oak be what keeps you from going to a location...(as in
Oakridge area). There is no bad weather, just bad clothing choices.
Take the tecnu and wash off!

These two help. Technu is good but this Maries Soap works
really well. If you already have it than use the Sasquatch to
sooth the pain. Good luck.

OBRA -- any good home remedies out there for poison

oatmeal baths (messy, no help), tea tree oil, and ice
(both = very

Taking a shot at this group having an ace

better than some of the online
suggestions.
Thanks for any insight!

BTW - picked up
