Last year, a couple very cool women who like to ride bikes and recognize the positive social change cycling can effect for women and our communities, decided to create a global cycling movement called CycloFemme.
Mother's Day would be the day riders of all genders, ages and races would unite to share in the joy and empowerment of cycling.
In its first year, 163 rides were held in 14 countries. This year, 165 rides in 26 countries are registered with 11 days to go until May 12th.
Join us again this Mother's Day to celebrate women on bikes through CycloFemme. Three rides are planned in the Portland area:
- If you're racing out at Hagg Lake that day, the awesome Let's Race Bikes bunch will have (temporary) tattoos and pledge sheets available (to promise to inspire at least one more woman to ride a bike). Snap your race, face, tat or pledge form and Instagram/Tweet it with #CycloFemme to show your support.
- A conversational 23-mile road ride for all levels will meet at Rapha HQ (NW 19th and Kearney) at 9a and end at Lent's Park in SE Portland, the start of Sunday Parkways. We're honored to have the founder of CycloFemme and Girl Bike Love, Sarai Snyder, joining us from Colorado for this ride. So invite your friends and significant others to ride, be inspired by the woman behind this movement, then join your families for some Sunday Parkways fun.
- If racing or a 23-mile ride are too much for someone you know, a shorter ride being organized by Women on Wheels will start at Clever Cycles at 10a. That ride will also converge at Lent's Park for post-ride festivities, including mini-cupcakes.
Information on all the rides and more on CycloFemme can be found here: http://cyclofemme.com/
Could you ask for a better Mother's Day gift? Didn't think so.
Thanks for your support and see you May 12th.

CycloFemme is a Global Women's Cycling Day created TO HONOR THE PAST and the emancipation of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers, for the freedom to choose and the chance to wear pants. TO CELEBRATE THE PRESENT and the riders who keep it rolling, bringing women's racing to the forefront, pushing the limits, breaking down barriers and sharing the love of the bike with everyone along the way. TO EMPOWER THE FUTURE of women in cycling and the opportunity for positive social change. Encourage women to ride and they will change the world.
