After years of looking at the walls of the velodrome during cross (and after pressure from teammates) I decided to go give the track development class a shot last night. All I can say is wow.
>From the moment I walked up to the track, I was welcomed and made to feel part of the group by the instructors. They found a bike that fit me in no time and had my pedals installed and the air checked without me having to worry about it. Even with what seemed to be a big group, the instruction was great and helpful without being condescending or rushed. They went over everything, from a brief history of the velodrome, to the names of the lines and the turns, to how to operate a fixed gear "magical dolphin" (my instructors should get that), to how to not fall down the wall. They adjusted the class to each person's interests and skill, and by the end of the class, I was racing.
I just wanted to thank Meg for organizing such a great class, and to Brian and Killian and all the other instructors for showing me the ropes and explaining how the track and the bike work together. Thanks to Sasha for making me work so hard on my last few laps of the night. Thank you all, I had a really good time!
