Update: 11 yr old Alex Shepherd was diagnosed with Grade 3 - Anaplastic Astrocytoma, an aggressive brain cancer. He has has two surgeries and has one more on May 28, '13. He will then begin an aggressive treatment regimen of daily radiation & chemotherapy (5 hrs from his home). Prognoses may not be good, but Alex will win this race too! Fortunately, he is able to be at home in Ashland before the next surgery to rest and recover.
Alex is one tough kid and if anyone can beat this, it's him.

On Monday, here at our first weekly race, we were treated with some Facetime with Alex while he was in the hospital in Portland. He was telling us to race hard and suffer. He loves those races and we all can't wait until he gets back out there.
