Note: I already have 7 men lined up for this, now I need 7 women. If more
men are interested, let me know, and I will put your name on a waiting list.
If I get more than 7 responses from women, I will also keep a waiting list.
I'm taking a statistics class at Portland State University (PSU) right now
and am starting work on a group project. I have talked to the exercise
physiologist at the school (Dr. Gary Brodowicz) and he has agreed to let us
use the exercise physiology lab to collect data we can analyze for our
project. What I need now is a few fit volunteers to come in and spend a
few
minutes on an ergometer so we can get some good data to work with. What
you
will get out of this is a free test. We just need about an hour of your
time (about 10 to 20 minutes of which you would be on the ergometer). The
lab at PSU doesn't have a full metabolic cart, so the data we can collect
are limited. We can get the following measurements:
- Maximum HR
- Maximum power output
- Calculate an estimate of your VO2max
- Generate a plot of Heart Rate vs. Power Output (so you will know the HR
where you generate the most power)
Unfortunately, the lab doesn't have the equipment to take lactate
measurements, so we can't get a reading of your lactate threshold.
Nonetheless, this is a great opportunity for you to get some very useful
data for free!
We need to test at least 14 people for this study to have sufficient data
to work with. We would like the sample to include 7 men and 7 women. I
will start with the first 7 men and 7 women who reply that they want to
make
it in for a test. If more than 14 people are interested, I will keep a
waiting list, and if the project group and I have time we can run more
tests. We can never have too much data! Write back to me (not the OBRA
list) if you are interested.
