Call-Up List for Short Track Race # 1 & other updates

Kris Schamp

2013-06-03

Hey everyone,

A quick heads-up that we just posted the call-up list for tomorrow's first night of short track racing (with all 250 racers who purchased a series pass or registered online for the first race):

http://www.portlandracing.com/call-up-list-2013-06-03.html

- All racers on this list have a pre-assigned race plate, which must be picked up at the pre-reg desk.
- If there is an x next to your name in the waiver column, you still have to fill out the online series waiver (http://www.portlandracing.com/waiver.html).
- We will start doing call-ups about 15' before the start of each race heat.

With the weather forecast calling for sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, it looks like we are all set for a fabulous first night of short track racing. So we're looking forward to seeing everyone out there!

Cheers,
~Kris

-----

For those of you who didn't receive the email that I sent out to the Portland Racing email list on Friday, here are a couple other updates about tomorrow's race and the rest of the series:

1) Online registration for race # 1 is now closed, but you can still register at the races on Monday.
Registration will be open from 4:30pm until 15 minutes prior to the start time of each race. The registration tent will be located on the infield of PIR next to the motocross tower. Please bring cash or checks. We do NOT accept credit cards, though there is an ATM located at the PIR main entrance. All races will start on time. If you plan to pay for your race on Monday, we recommend that you arrive at PIR at least 1 hour before the start of your race, so you have enough time to get registered and pre-ride the course.

2) Please fill out our online Series Race Waiver & Accident Release Form.
Whether you plan to pre-register online or prefer to pay for your races on race day, please take a minute and fill out our online series waiver & accident release form (http://www.portlandracing.com/waiver.html). You need to do this only once and you will be all set for the whole series. It will save on paper, save you time at your first race (no need to hand-write a paper waiver), and it will make the race administration at our end much easier. Thanks!

3) Pre-registered riders & race plates:
Like previous years, all racers will receive a unique, laminated series race plate, which you will receive at your first race and which you will re-use throughout the series (unless you change categories). If you have purchased a series pass or pre-registered online for Monday's race, all you need to do on Monday is pick up your race plate at the pre-registration desk (in front of the motocross race tower) and you're all good to go.

4) FREE weekly Short Track Clinics and Kiddie Races:
In good tradition, our longtime series sponsor Bike N Hike will host FREE weekly clinics for juniors and novice men racers. In addition, Sorella Forte's Elite Women rider and bike coach Elaine Both will continue to teach her free women clinics (open to all women). The 1-hour clinics will be held from 4:30pm to 5:30pm on the short track race course and will include a guided bike-through of the course, various fun skill drills, and a ton of race tips from folks who not only know how to race hard but also how to race smart! Meet-up for the clinics is in front of the bleachers next to the registration tent, but if you can't make it by 4:30pm, you're free to drop in on the clinics at any time.

For the little ones, Camas Bike & Sports and their bike team will organize every week two FREE kiddie races. The Beginner Kids will do a short, 1-minute mini-loop on a dedicated kiddie course, while the Expert Kids will do a slightly longer, 5-10' loop, which might include part of the regular short track race course. The kiddie races will get under way at 5:30pm and start/finish in the grassy area under the trees.

NOTE: you don't have to register in advance for the clinics or kiddie races, but all participants/parents need to fill out a series waiver.

5) NEW - Wednesday Night is Short Track Special Night at the Lumberyard Indoor Bike Park!
The Lumberyard, Portland's much-acclaimed indoor bike park just celebrated their first-year anniversary and this year they're stepping up their support for the series big time by offering a smoking deal to all Portland Short Track racers: throughout the series, Short Track racers will be able to ride the Lumberyard every Wednesday night (5-10pm) for only $10! To get in on the deal, all you need to do is show them your 2013 Short Track Series race plate and ID when you check in. Riding at the Lumberyard is not only super-fun for riders of all ages and all levels, but it also makes for a great cross-training work-out and it's a perfect place to work on your riding skills!

6) Sponsors, goodies and prizes galore!
We are thrilled to enjoy the continued support of all our fantastic sponsors:
- Hopworks Urban Brewing, Portland's all-organic, bike-centric eco-brewpub continues to be the title sponsor of the series and every week they will throw in some much-coveted beer prizes (at least, for racers who are 21 and over). In addition, the Hopworks Bike Bar (located at 3947 N Williams Ave, just a couple minutes from PIR) will again offer their $2 first beer special (one per racer!) to Short Track racers who drop by after the races and show them their 2013 race plate (our secret handshake of sorts). The HUB Bike Bar features a great outdoor patio and some yummy Happy Hour specials (from 9 to 11pm).
- Our bike shop sponsor Cyclepath will be at the series each night to provide free mechanical support and the great folks of Portland Design Works and the Lumberyard will be teaming up with Northwest Trail Alliance to provide racers free post-race refreshments.
- Starting at the second race - and all the way through our Series Grand Finale - we will raffle off and give away a bunch of great prizes and goodies donated by our generous sponsors Yakima, Moots, Rubena, Chris King and many others. Please return the favor and support our sponsors with your business!

7) Some IMPORTANT safety tips.
On Monday nights between 6pm and 8pm there are ongoing road bike races on the PIR race track. If you are in a rush to get to the short track course, please use the wooden bridge to cross the track. If you prefer to cross through the main gate (where the road racers enter), we ask you to follow - at all times - the directions of the crossing marshals and use extreme caution when crossing! As a general rule, never cross the track when oncoming racers are in sight. Also, if you come early to pre-ride and there are still cars or motorcycles using the track, you MUST use the bridge to cross the track. Finally, if you drive over to PIR, make sure to not leave any valuables visibly in your car or unlocked bikes on your bike racks.
