One thing that has not been mentioned is an 'umbrella policy'. Essentially, this is a separate policy that covers you when none of your other insurance will, or you exceed your limits on a policy. Anyone with significant assets should have an umbrella policy. I used it when a friend's bike fell off my rack and no other policy would cover it and when I was sued as a race official when a spectator got injured. Saved me many thousands of dollars; I did get cancelled after they paid for my friend's $4500 bike falling off my car's rack.
