You will only want to make the switch
to Shimano if you are ready for rock solid durability. And I mean
that as in "stands up to repeated hammering on rocks". Over the
years I've hit my M959s so hard - and so many times - I thought
they'd never work right after that. But they keep right on working
perfectly.
Recently I put a set of M985s on one bike and I'm really pleased
with the added support. They might easily become my new favorite.
