Congratulations to Shirley and her team who put on an outstanding race.
Thank you! It was soooooo cool to be able to race with a peer group and
believe me this race was just as competitive and tough as any I have been
in.
This is another example of the quality folks that make up the OBRA
membership and work so hard to continue to grow the sport for Everyone.

I don't think the stated objective was divisive at all. Putting on a race
with multiple fields and providing support for those fields is expensive.
Most always, promoters money is spent on the mens fields. THis race
provided an opportunity for women that they rarely get, i.e. to race with
narrowly defined categories, which usually only men get to enjoy.
In that aim, the race succeeded. Any woman who showed up was welcomed with
a rare opportunity to race with a narrowly defined peer group and have a
competitive race on a wonderful course in a well supported environment.

Just out of curiosity, did this event accomplish its stated goal? I have to
admit, I found the stated objective pretty divisive. I think a better goal
would be to promote racing generally, leaning toward fostering new riders,
not just women riders. Many of you may recall a time when there were few
categories, however, as interest in the sport grew so did the frequency and
number of categories. In my experience as a promoter, I believe promoters
should field the categories that make the most sense in terms of
participants and then include several categories for beginners, perhaps,
beginner men, women and veterans. I believe the end result will be more
advantageous to us all.
Anyway, thanks for putting on a race!
