I've come late to this discussion, so excuse me if I'm making a point that's already been made.

If one wants to promote a race that encourages and/or limits participation of certain bike racing demographics, so be it. We can choose to either race or not. The following year, the promoter can decide whether or not to maintain the present format. It's that simple.

Don't like it, don't race.

Dick, you are an emotial one aren't you? Just because your name isn't Steve

doesn't mean you have to call me Dick. I would much rather be called Steve

so that I can race. Perhaps if you don't like it, you should put on a race

for Dicks only.

Thanks for your feedback!

(WARNING: BITING SARCASM BELOW - PARENTAL GUIDANCE

SUGGESTED)

"Anyway, that's my point" ~Dick Randleman

That wasn't your point. If it was, then you would

have criticized every race prior to the Even Steven. .

. as none were "inclusive". Your original point was

that Even Steven was "devisive" in it's goals. It

appears it was devisive for you only Dick and not to

OBRA as a whole. Your points about furthering the

sport are all valid; but using Even Steven as a

platform for making these points is not. If you have

some unresolved "mommy" issues or female issues. . .I

know some "Sensitivity Counselors" I could refer you

to, just let me know. I care.

~Richard "you can call me Dick" Hammel

So if we all take this

position, and do not try to be as INCLUSIVE, (i.e.

encourage people to

race), as possible in the few races we have each

year, the sport is going to

suffer tremendously.

Anyway, that's my point and I will do everyone a

favor and drop the topic.

This suggestion summarizes best of all what I am opposed to. As a promoter,

my desired format would be the most highly attended categories only. In

other words, likely no women or junior categories. So if we all take this

position, and do not try to be as INCLUSIVE, (i.e. encourage people to

race), as possible in the few races we have each year, the sport is going to

suffer tremendously.

Anyway, that's my point and I will do everyone a favor and drop the topic.

YOU ARE RIGHT! I am going to promote a race. Using the Even Steven

concept, my race will be called

"ONLY STEVEN ROAD RACE"

The only people who can race must be named Steven, Steve, Stephen, or

some

derivative of Steven. There will be multiple age and skill categories

and

even a category for women named Steven. The goal shall be to promote

a race

for people named Steven because I feel Stevens are severely under

represented in the peleton. I believe I can achieve 100% participation

among racers named Steven. In fact, I believe that I will increase the

number of new Stevens entering the sport because the existing Stevens

will

tell them about the Only Steven Road Race and they will start training

for

next year. Eventually, I predict that Stevens will out number all

other

bicycle racers combined and that because there are so many Stevens

racing,

other promoters will start offering Steven categories at their races

as well

to attract the large number of new Stevens entering the sport.

See you there Curt.... errrr.... oops, sorry you can't race.

I am trying to figure out when this group became a bunch of

cry-babies...

Every person has the option to chose which race they want to do or not

do. If you don't see a format you like, sign on as a p[romoter and put

your desired format together. It is that simple.

I just thought that I should point out that there are 109 people on the

extended OBRA membership list with the "Steve" permutations below. 45 have

2003 annual memberships. Some are female (Stephanie, last name Stevens,

etc.) The bottom line is that the size of the identified potential market

for the "Only Steven Race" is roughly the same size as the identified

potential market for a female only race.

Hi, There are all womens runs, All womens Triatlons all womens about

anything you can think of. Whats the Big Deal? Must be a bike racer

thing......? And as far as promoting bike racing. A change in attitude.

would go along way. The primary reason I dont race is its not fun to be

around snobs who cant even muster up the energy to return a greeting.
