OLN Question of the day

Brian Baumann

2003-05-15

I have OLN, but I think it would be better to find a

place to occasionally watch the TDF in the company of

other cycling freaks! Claudia's is a good choice

(least smoky sports bar), but we will definitely take

a back seat to the Mariners if they are on. They will

broadcast the sports event on the big screen that most

people show up for. So let's outnumber the baseball

fans and take over that bar for 3 weeks! They do have

many tv's to watch sports though-not to mention the

fact that their food is good too.

Other ideas?

In Corvallis, there is a bar at the local indoor sports park that shows all the Tour de France stages at the evening rebroadcast time. At least they did previous years. Peak Sports, a local shop, sponsored these evenings. What I don't know is what the "sponsoring" means in this case (i.e. what the sponsor has to pay for), since I assume the big screen tv and cable connections are already there.

Anyhow, you might call someone in the bike dept at Peak and ask how they work it. Phone is 541-754-6444.

Now back to Introduction to Philosophy. You can see where my mind is these days, eh? :)

call around to some sports bars etc. and ask if they have digital cable. if they do, they will usually let you watch what you want. i believe OLN is a digital cable station.

I know that this is a pipe dream, but here goes:

Plenty of bars in the area have Survivor, American Idol, or Friends

nights. You all know the premise: Sit around with a bar full of people watching

these shows on big screen TVs.

Any chance that any Portland area eating or drinking establishments do the

same for OLN's cycling coverage for those of us who are OLN deprived?

Just my wish for the day.

Thanks.

I have watched OLN coverage at both the 52 Street Pub on Sandy and at

the A&L Tavern at 60th and Glisan. Any sports bar in town that has a

good cable package should have it.
