I think it's the peak of the Music Festival otherwise I'd suggest checking with the folks at Peter Britt in J'ville itself. Not really a campground but again, with your story ... But I'd guess they're full up with concerts every night about now.
Applegate Lake is nice but even further out to the East than C-B. and in the other direction it's a ways. Emigrant Lake S of Ashland, and some nice places toward Crater Lake. I'd start with Cantrall-Buckley for sure if that's close enough to your route !
