Hi , I had to cut my email short last wensday and run out on a job I didnt

get to say all I wanted to say but Im sure I got some peoples attention. I

have been out fishing since wensday( ya it was awsome) got back today after

a race.( My Opinion) Bike races will never really promote and grow cycling.

They are for the cyclists. I personaly feel that promoting bike racing

starts with every cyclist. Its the message we send out to others that is

going to make the sport grow. By being social, polite and setting a good

example. Being aproachable. Letting people have fun. Will draw in new

people.    I remember when got Started it was in California 1977 I used to

draft mopeds on my bike off the milatary base on my way body surfing. A guy

named Chuck saw me said I was really fast( I didnt know, and I didnt care I

was on my way surfing and the moped helped me get there that much quicker)

He said ,hey you should come to track and race. I never did but he did

eventually talk me into one road race ( I got second) I pulled the whole

way didnt have a clue it was fun. I was wearing Nike shorts and Running

shoes. A long long time went by untill my next event( about two decades)

Dear Old Dad just killed me on a mountain bike ride he would jump off his

bike and push me up the hill then sprint up behind me and do it again he

was 56 I was 30 I figured something was wrong with this picture and did

something about it. I still remember Chuck and what he said to me. Also

there was Michael Syslvester who spent at least 15 minutes convincing me I

could and showing me how to go down the elevator shaft at a cyclocross race

, the specalized guys that gave me some of there energy drink to try at a

critirum, they were sitting in the back of there car and start giving me

pionters and encouragement.   Carl Maxon who took the time teach me how to

train. This is the kind of stuff that we need more of. For some reason the

multi sport crowed is so much fun they smile talk and have I good time. I

did a duathlon today. It was really Fun. The multi sport crowed is growing

Fast in more ways than one.

                         Best, Peter

Hear hear. There really is only one stick in the mud who doesn't like

the idea of Shirley's race. He's just pissed cuz he can't get somebody

to put on a race with a separate field for overweight and undertrained

male over 40 Cat I-IIs who used to be good umpteen years ago.

See ya

Next time you are in Eugene, be sure to come out and ride with us!

Hi, There are all womens runs, All womens Triatlons all womens about

anything you can think of. Whats the Big Deal? Must be a bike racer

thing......? And as far as promoting bike racing. A change in attitude.

would go along way. The primary reason I dont race is its not fun to be

around snobs who cant even muster up the energy to return a greeting.

                              Peter
