Newbie corner- Stage Race particularities

As we come up on another couple of stage races I wanted to point out a

couple of SR features that will be imposed and you should be aware of

If for any reason other than the crit one below you do not finish a stage

you are not allowed to continue to compete in the future stages

Time Cut- Many times 10 or 20% of the stage winners time. This is usually

done when the content of the stage race includes a criterium. Many times it

is not as safe to put 125 riders on a crit course than can do a road stage.

In order to continue in the race you must finish the road stage within the

parameters of the time cut. This time cut will be imposed at Mt Hood,

Elkhorn and Cascade!

Pulled in a crit. - Ditto above but what happens here is that riders that

fall off the back are asked to removed themselves from the crit and are

given a prorated time and allowed to continue the future stages.

Sign in- On all stages - EXCEPT time trials - this helps to verify who

started the event and who we do not need to continue to track. Failure to

sign in results in time penalties.

Do not cross the finish line twice (or even more than twice) It is very

hard t assign separate times to all riders, riders to backtrack and cross

multiple times add to the delay in posting results.

Run Out- When there is a pack finish in a road stage some officials station

themselves downsteam from the finish line and take number of the riders in

each separate pack. No not go back to the finish line judge (unless

previously instructed) just make sure that the downsteam judge has your

number and the group you were in.

Communique - this is a list of instructions and may infractions that are

given out my the officials. There is usually one posted at the results

posting area. It will describe any penalities/warning given out and

communicate any other necessary info. Look for this and read it.

Can you experienced guys think of anything else?
