Just looking for some advice, I haven't done this loop before.

I've ridden Ape Canyon up to Spirit Lake before but never descended Smith Creek. One of the online trail guides I read made it sound like the descent is somewhat gnarly, but I was hoping to ride the HT... Should I really ride the full squish bike? Any other trail beta I should be aware of?
