Hello Kenji,
I realize this is not race related but this route is a major training
destination for many OBRA Cyclists. I was hoping you could pass this
on via the Obra Chat email.
Ride along with State Representatives Jim Moller and Paul Harris, plus
Mayor Tim Leavitt to help us improve bike and pedestrian safety on
Lower River Road.
Have you ever tried to walk, bike or run out to Vancouver Lake park
using Lower River Road? It's not very fun as you ride, run or walk
feet away from zooming trucks. The Port of Vancouver has a 30 year
plan to build a continuous separated multi modal path along that
highway and already has a section completed. Creating such a pathway
would greatly diminish the potential for conflicts and risk of crashes
between people on bikes, on foot and the freight traffic. It would
safely connect a fantastic recreational and tourist opportunity
(Frenchman's Bar and Vancouver Lake park) to a larger chuck of the
greater Vancouver area.
BikeVanWa - For A (Hopeful) Brighter Future in conjunction with Bike
Alliance of Washington plus support from Bike Clark County and the
Clark Communities Bike and Pedestrian Advisory Committee are
organizing a ride to show the state, city, county and the port that
the Vancouver community is behind this plan and would love to find
ways to complete the path project sooner than 30 years.
Date/Time: Friday, August 23 start at 1pm; ride begins at
approximately 1:20 pm. Ride concludes at 2:30 pm.
Site location: Intersection of 4th Plain and Mill Plain on Lower River
road and take until just past Gateway Ave. Specific directions to our
meeting point - At intersection of 4th and Mill Plain on Lower River
Road, turn west down St. Francis Lane. Continue forward towards the
IMS Recycling building. Vear right before the building towards stop
sign. Cross train tracks at stop sign and location will be on your
left - 2121 St. Francis Lane. We will have people on hand at the start
of St. Francis Lane directing folks.
What to bring: Bicycle and helmet. If you do not bike, we still
encourage you to show up for 20-30 presentation before the ride. We
are working to have a parking area at the intersection for people to
park their cars if they can't ride their bicycle.
Representatives currently confirmed are: Washington State House
Representatives Jim Moeller and Paul Harris, Vancouver Mayor Tim
Leavitt, Vancouver City Councilmembers Larry Smith and Bill Turlay.
Help us show to the representatives how important this project is to
the Vancouver community by attending.
Thanks!
G
